Edward Wilkinson (Edward Michael Jeremy)
The youngest of the four Wilkinson boys, Edward always stood out as an individual in his own right. He attended
St Kevin's College, Toorak and Melbourne High School, where he was a prominent member of the stage crew team and developed an interest in lighting design. He was awarded colours for stage crew and was involved in
numerous opera and theatre productions, as lighting manager, stage manager and in other capacities. He also went on a student exchange, spending six months in Boston, USA, where he attended Melrose High School
and was involved in amateur theatrical productions there. After leaving school he spent a year at Monash University, studying arts, before being accepted into the Technical Production course at NIDA, in Sydney. He graduated in 1999, with a
reputation for special expertise in lighting design and for doing regular 'bit parts' in productions as a 'walk on' actor.
He worked as Production Manager for several Sydney Theatre companies, including the Griffin Theatre, and was heavily involved in the Production Management for the New Year's Eve Celebrations, in Sydney, for the
Millenium (2000) and in subsequent years. He also worked with the production team for the Sydney Olympic Games – being involved primarily with the Opening Ceremony, for which he managed one of the main rehearsal sites.
He has Production Managed in several New South Wales venues and in Canberra, and toured to Canada in 2001. He worked as Producer of News Year's Eve Celebrations,
and was part of the production team for other special events, for Sydney City Council. He was allocated the role of managing the Independence Celebrations for
East Timor, where he spent three months in 2002. During his time in East Timor he met up with Caroline O'Brien, who was working in public relations for the United Nations.
He and his team received a National Tourism Award in 2005, for the New Year's Eve celebrations in Sydney.
He regularly participated in the City to Surf 'fun run' and in 2004 completed a Marathon in Sydney with his brother, Oliver.
Much of 2005 was spent travelling, participating in a "Marathon for Peace" in Rwanda and spending time exploring other African countries. He enjoyed lengthy visits to Paris and New York and then spent 2
years in London, where he worked as project manager for a London based events company before being appointed as Events Coordinator for Human Rights Watch. During 2006 he competed in two Marathons
- in Berlin and in Salisbury and 2007 brought the London Marathon.and another in Anglesey, with elder brother Dominic. He completed a Master's in International Relations in 2008, through Macquarie
University, and an MBA in 2009 (U NSW and U Sydney). January 2008 brought a return to Australia and a change of career. Edward, and Caroline, moved to Canberra, where he commenced working for the Department of
Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), training as a diplomat. Since returning to Australia, early in 2008, he has competed in several more marathons, including an UltraMarathon (50 Km) in Canberra and another along the
Great Ocean Road in Victoria in May 2009. Having been together for seven years and with the imminent prospect of their move to the USA Edward & Caroline were married in Canberra on April 18 2009. (Pictures)
They became property owners, having bought an apartment in the Canberra suburb of Lyneham. The apartment is currently rented out and will continue thus for the
forseeable future. In March 2009 he was appointed Australian Vice Consul in Los Angeles, moving there in early June. They expect to be in the USA for three years,
living in a small apartment close to the beach in Santa Monica.They are settling in well and he completed two further Marathons (in San Francisco
and Las Vegas) since arriving in the USA - total score of Marathons and Ultramarathons now 14!.
