Matthew Wilkinson (Matthew Peter Rupert)

The elder, by some 15 minutes, of identical twins, Matthew attended Liverpool Blue Coat School, St Kevin's College, Toorak and Melbourne High School. An outstanding swimmer, specialising in butterfly, he competed at city and regional level in the UK and at State level in Australia. He represented Victoria in Water Polo (under 16). At school he was awarded colours for swimming and water polo and was one of a highly successful school swimming team over many years.

He entered Monash University to study Arts / Science in 1993 and, after a very good first year, was accepted to transfer into medicine in the University of Queensland, where he graduated in 1999.
He has worked as resident and registrar in Alice Springs and Darwin and trained in surgery, with a particular interest in Orthopaedics.

 

Matthew and his wife, Jane, a physiotherapist, were married on North Stradbroke Island in March 2005. Details

He participates in numerous sports including swimming, cricket, running, football, etc. He has competed in the City to Surf Fun Run in Sydney over several years and ran the Gold Coast Marathon in 2000 and the London Marathon in 2004. He also competed in the Engadine Ski Marathon in 2004

Matt and Jane's have two boys, Thomas who was born on September 1st 2007 and Nicholas, born 11 July 2009. Matthew is a Captain in the Defence Force Reserves

Matthew completed his advanced training in orthopedics and completed his FRACS in May 2009. With the family he spent six months in London in early 2010 and is now in Vancouver, Canada.
